Suffragan Bishop John H. Pettiford was the youngest of five children. He received His formal education in St. Louis, Mo and furthered his education while serving in the United States Air Force. He was baptized in the name of Jesus and received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost on July 27, 1966. He worked faithfully beside His father, the late District Elder John H. Pettiford, Sr. at the House of Prayer to all Nations Church.

God used Elder Pettiford mightily early in His ministry, and his God-given gifts of writing and teaching as he was established as a devoted worker of the Lord in this portion of God's vineyard. In May 1979, he was placed as acting Pastor to work with his father after his health began to fail. On September 27, 1979, he was installed as Pastor of the House of Prayer to all Nations. He has served faithfully in this capacity witnessing many souls coming to the Lord. In November 1988, Elder Pettiford was appointed to the office of District Elder by the late Bishop P.L. Scott. In August 1992, he was promoted to the office of Suffragan Bishop by the Diocesan of the Midwestern District Council, Bishop James A. Johnson. He is very active in the council and has served in numerous offices. He presently serves as Suffragan Bishop over the Eastern Jurisdiction of the Midwestern District Council under Diocesan Bishop Alphonso Scott.

Suffragan Bishop Pettiford was rejoicing with the wife of his youth, Sister Freddie Pettiford, with whom he exchanged vows on January 3, 1961. They are the proud parents of five children and grandparents of fifteen, one deceased. God has been gracious to this couple and has truly blessed them in great and miraculous ways. His favorite saying, 'I've got a feeling that every little old thing is going to be alright' is reflected in his disposition and attitude as he moves in faith trusting in the Lord.
